Would love to see how French made it English but history is probably written by the winners I suppose Evil or Very Mad

1066!
I remember that year!
That's the one time The French won a war!
But they were Viking Norse Norgie Normans from Norway who had been in Normandy for 400 years
and they spoke "Norman French"

and they were NORMAL
(but, then, THEY invented that word) Confused

and they forced the English Channel
one guy leaned out of the boat and shot an arrow
to test the wind
and it happened to fly right into Saxon King Herold's eye
so they set up a squat in the tower of londinium
mixed Celtic with Norse and Saxonish and latinish and Greekery (Grok)and psycho-babble and techno-speak
and Dengi (From Denmark)
and created ANGLETERSE! Smile

in the tropic of sir galahad"
Mad Rolling Eyes

in 1972 when that band america got it on the radio
for some reason Confused

Shows how anti-English the French were. Quite happy for the Scandinavians to have Normandy. As soon as they become English, suddenly France want it back!

DW: I think when the Normans came and shot King Harold in the eye
the Welsh laughed their asses off

no?

P.E.: To be honest it's way over my head how it all adds up. Apparently the Vikings were still invading during the Norman conquest etc. Then the Normans were taking the mantle from the Saxons and fighting against Wallace. From what I gather it was just as complicated in America and there was even a Comanche-Apache civil war after the wars againt the Europeans started?!

DW: Well, (one faction of) The Norse Vikings took over northern France--which got called "Normandy"
i think 400 some years before they invaded Britain
(maybe it was 200 years
it was either 200 or 400)
probably more like 400--because, at this point, they spoke what was called NORMAN FRENCH

about when they were getting ready to invade Britain, from Normandy, France--some cousin or relation to William the Bastard, (Duke of Normandy), tried to invade Britain directly from Norway

[I forget his name
but he was some king still back in Norway]

Saxon King Harold II ran to the east coast of Britain, and successfully fought THAT guy off--and disbanded his army
to go back to their farms and do their harvests etc

JUST THEN William started to try and invade from Normandy
so Harold had to scrounge back up as many of his army as he could
with short notice
and ran south-west to meet William the Bastard
at Hastings

it was a damn close-run battle
because Harold and the Saxons had the top of a low ridge-line
and William's forces had to attack uphill
but a lucky arrow-shot got Harold, smack in the eye Shocked Mad
so William the Bastard won
and became William The Conqueror Laughing
This was 1066

and HE brought the first castles into Britain
His first castles were pre-fab wooden structures that he brought over in ships
but he immediately started building stone ones
of which The Tower of London is one example

One of William's descendants was King Longshanks
and he fought against William Wallace (Scottish patriot warlord general)
in the early 1200s
Wallace kicked Longshank's ass at York
and also at the battle of Sterling bridge

in the movie BRAVEHEART
they show the battle of Sterling Bridge
but WITH NO BRIDGE! Confused Rolling Eyes
they just make it a normal land battle
and I have NO IDEA why
because THAT was Wallace's whole genius:
that he waited till Longshank's army was half-way across the bridge
before he attacked
thereby making it so Longshank's guys were facing Wallace's guys-(especially ARCHERS)
from one tiny point
trapped on a skinny stone bridge

as for the American Indians
they all fought each other
all the time

The Saxons had been in Britain 400 years before The Normans invaded

and the Celtic Welsh were the ones there, before The Saxons came

that's why I said they probably laughed their asses off when Harold got stuck in the eye

but
then
The Normans were just as bad
to them

maybe
but HE woulda been called Wrong Way Willie
because he embarked from there!
He was The Duke of Normandy THERE
but KING OF ENGLAND on the other side
so Duke Bastard to King Conqueror
ain't a bad promotion Laughing

well worth a fifty-mile commute

Little known ACTUAL fact:
The ravens that cluster on The Tower of London are OFFICIALLY privates in The British army! Shocked
and it's illegal to harm, or bother, them
When one, once, kept fouling up some aerial
it had to be given a dishonoraqble discharge, before it could be exiled to the mountains of Wales

An ancient legends says that as long as the ravens remain there, on the Tower, England can never fall
so, to make sure, I guess, their wings are clipped

This is the official Royal Raven Master

Viking Flags

If the raven flutters
before the battle
that means you will win

Well, I can understand the currect Vikings wanting to venerate the ancient raven tradition
but, it seems kinda insecure the way they think they have to clip the ravens' wings
and keep some of them in cages
to make sure they all don't leave Laughing

That would appear to be the British way. Can you name a hotspot in the world today that wasn't a Crown Colony at least at some point in the past? Or was divied up with british involvement?

"Thou hast expanded the nation"

but some version of some British monarchy
wasn't THE NATION
the nation is THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL
and anyone
of any race
or any nationality
could join the nation
if they believed in God
no-one could be denied
any human could
and CAN
join THE NATION being referred to
in that scripture

God said that if He someday brought the whole nation back to the land of Palestine
"the land would be too straight (narrow) for you"

well
we're BACK
and that has happened
