dragon wars

this movie starts out unapologetically freaky
and gets freakier

even if you never liked dragony phantasy-assed movies
at all
you'll probably like something about this movie
flat crazed freaky
that's all i can say

***************

anyone seen either of these things?

I saw it. I love dragony phantasy-assed movies. Always have. this one had spectacular effects. The dragons were phenomenal. The acting and directing, however, were atrocious. Felt like I was watching a 70s japanese flick.

yup
that's one of the freaky things
within one minute i started thinking i had made a big mistake
when i had clicked onto this thing
because it's coming off like some fairy tale for some five year old
cartoon acting
and almost no plot
just dragons and all kindza freakie creatures running amok
i quit even trying to follow the plot though
because the special effects suddenly pop in
and everything get's freakier and freakier

the whole movie is carried by the freaky action
that's all this movie has
but it just has SO much of it

well
michael clayton won
at least one
of the seven
oscar nominations
i couldn't stand to watch the oscar show itself
and i haven't checked out all the winning categories
so it may have won something else too
but it won for best supporting actress

which is kinda weird
because it's a small part:

this one really bitchy evil lady
is shown throughout the movie
getting drerssed to go give some speech at a board of directors meeting
and she's practicing her speech in front of the mirror
in a series of flashbacks
sprinkled throughout the movie
as it progresses

then she gives the speech
at the meeting
then she has about one or two more short scenes where she's talking to george clooney
but
i will say
the last time she talks to him
at the end of the movie
is kinda tense
and it brings the whole movie together
and sews everything up
so it's a crucial scene

but all in all she's only on camera for a few minutes

i guess the sheer enormity of her evil bitchiness is pretty striking
pure archetypal corporate satan bitch Laughing
but super realistic
so that's why she won
i guess

the whole magic of this movie is how intensely realistic it is
(in fact--it's almost TOO complicated and intense in its
realism--that's why i said you have to be sure to give it ten or fifteen minutes
because i know some people would just go: "this kinda stuff isn't for me!"
and bail on it prematurely--AND THAT WOULD BE A MISTAKE)

depicting people who have sold their souls to the corporation
with such complicated hades contracts
and then it suddenly sucks you into this whole surrealistic realm
that just happens to be totally real

(kinda)
and sometimes you don't know what's real
and what's fantasy
and who's sane
and who's totally nuts

and, in the end, you really have to question the very definitions of both Laughing

i HIGHLY recommend this movie

I watched 3 excellent movies this weekend.
First was Gone Baby Gone. A child abduction movie. Disturbing yet really compelling. Excellent movie. Very very moving.

I also watched American Gangster. Out of the 3 movies I watched, I liked this one the least ALTHOUGH it was still an excellent film. Great story, (the fact that its based on a true story helps) and both Denzel and Russel are, as usual, simply great.

The BEST of the 3, by far, was The Brave One. Watched it last night and that movie grips you from the beginning to the end. Great recommendation Dog and Roy! Movie had me in tears and yelling "FUCK YEAH!" at the TV screen. Jodie is always great and the black fella who played the cop (I liked him in Crash too) is very good as well.

yeah
the ending
the way it worked out
was particularly cool
and kinda surprising

another cool surprise about the movie MICHAEL CLAYTON:
remember THIS geeky kid?

michael anthony hall
who was the geeky kid in breakfast club
and played basically the same role in a whole string of nerd movies
back in the early 80's

well, he ends up playing this really snarky evil corporate stooge hit man type operative sleeze-for-hire guy Laughing

pretty refreshing role for HIM, actually

just watched michael clayton again
because not only is this a movie you CAN watch twice
you almost HAVE to watch it twice
because it's riddled with flashbacks
and weird little spot scenes
that you can't grasp the meanings of
till you've seen the movie once already
then
the second time you watch it
yer mind can reel all the ends in

turns out the lady who won the academy award is in about five times as many scenes as i remembered Laughing

heartbreak kid
ben AND jerry stiller

2007 re-make
but i don't know when the original was

but this one had me laughing at some scenes harder than i have in years

ben stiller marries a total babe
who seems great till the wedding ceremony
and in nano-seconds
on the way down to cabo for the honeymoon
it turns into the grandmother of all nightmares Mad
and
simultaneously
there on the mexican beach
he meets the elfy brown haired minxy faced girl
and by her side every second
he wants to abide
Laughing

then it gets worse
(believe it or not)
then worse Laughing

yule probably laugh yer ass off too

then it gets worse Laughing

man
still never seen that
want to really bad
i guess it'll come on ppv pretty soon

**************

THE TICKET
1997

this one is good because it's about a guy who wins the lottery
but he has to fly himself and his wife (shannen doherty) and their young son
in a little piper cub plane
to denver
to collect the 23 million dollars
but the people who lend him the plane know about the ticket
so they only put in enough gas for them to crash in the wildest part of idaho
so they can try and get the ticket

so you get to see survival scenes in the wildest part of idaho
so that makes up for shannen doherty Laughing Cool Razz

ok
bit of a minor spoiler coming up here
so
if you've never seen all first three of these alien movies
and someday hope to
skip this post
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Laughing
ok
here goes...
i always wondered why
after ripley goes to all that trouble to save the little girl
(at the end of the second movie)
why in the hell do they start the third movie explaining that she, (the little girl), died in the freezer
as the third movie starts?

and i just figured it out:
(looking at the dates these movies were made--it DAWNED on me):
because yer not supposed to age in the freezers
and it was bad enough that sigourney weaver looks clearly seven years older
as the second movie begins...
but there would be no way to explain how the little girl suddenly
looks six years older at the beginning of the third movie
(DUH!) Rolling Eyes

that never crossed my mind before Confused

i remember thinking that was kinda lame
to find out
at the very beginning of the third movie
that the little girl that sigourney fought the alien over
in the robot loader
was instantly dead as the movie begins
but now i realize that a 12 year old girl would look a hell of a lot different by the time she's 18 Laughing

like i say
it was bad enough that ripley's about 25, in the first movie
then she goes into cryogenic suspension
and suddenly she appears to be in her mid thirties Laughing
then a few months pass
and she goes into cryo again
and
at the start of the third movie
she still should be about 25
but, now, she's, clearly, about 40 Laughing

no way they coulda explained that with a little girl turning into an adult
so they just say she's dead
and you never see the dead little girl--in the smashed cryo tank
and they explain that she's tragically dead

ripley looks at her body, in the morgue
but you don't get a good look at her face
they always just show her eyes

after all that heroic "get away from her, you bitch!"
stuff
(at the end of the second movie)
i always wondered why they would kill the girl off like that
but now i realize why

once again...
DUH! Rolling Eyes Embarassed Confused

Laughing

Watched Untracable at the pics on sat as to my surprise my girlfriend wanted to see it.
What a cheesey film it reminded me of those halmark movies like death of a cheerleader!
The best and most believable actor in the film was killed off! The premise was good just a pitty about most of the acting was crap!

TEAM AMERICA-WORLD POLICE
2004

This is possibly the funniest thing i've ever seen Laughing

super detailed puppet movie
made by the guys who make south park

south park humor on steroids

a patriotic actor joins the rabidly patriotic cowboy idiot anti-terrorist TEAM AMERICA
and saves the entire world
several times over
with his cutting-edge acting Laughing

while all the other actors on earth
join F*** TEAM AMERICA
and blabber and whine
(the tim robbins puppet gives some speech where every other word
is "corporations" Laughing : --"corporations acting all corporationy! Evil or Very Mad ")
all the while the letters: F.A.G.
appear under his face
because he belongs to the film actors guild

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

and on and on and on
over the top sarcastic jokes like a machine gun

unbelievably detailed intricate puppet props and scenery

be prepared to piss yerself Razz Laughing

(there's even a training montage with a fade out) Laughing Cool
